Welcome to the Oakdene Website. Thanks for dropping in and spending some time.
Here you'll find comments about the various places Ann and I have visited over the past few years. Contents of the various sections can be accessed via the tabs above. About the pictures
All photographic work is copyright of Brian Harris and Ann Harris but may be freely downloaded and used for none commercial purposes (school/college work, society newsletters etc.). Please acknowledge authorship where appropriate. Note however that the resolution of all photographs displayed has been reduced. If you would like copies of the higher resolution originals please contact me.
Site construction
The website has gone through various stages of development but I've tried to maintain a solution which conforms to W3C standards for CSS and XHTML. The latest additions use new facilities introduced in HTML5 and CSS3 so will probably work better in browsers other than Internet Explorer which as usual is lagging behind. The whole site has been put together using a text editor to create the HTML and text. Images have been manipulated and effects created using GIMP, Photoshop Elements and IrfanView. Dynamic features are achieved using Javascript and Jquery. Information about the pictures is held within a MySQL database which is then used to generate the Contents and Gallery pages with PHP scripts.
Acknowledgments to various CSS Design Sites and Books from where I worked out how to achieve (cribbed) some of the effects.
